Recycled Reads celebrates Armed Forces Day

arrusflag1Watch for it! Saturday, May 16, is Armed Forces Day, and Recycled Reads invites you to come in that day and purchase a paperback book that you think the men and women in the Armed Forces might enjoy reading. When you do, we’ll send it, through Operation Paperback, to our troops. It’s a small thing, but our folks in uniform will appreciate it. Thanks!

Paperback Madness!

arrpbsWe’re holding an ongoing sale of “mass-market” paperbacks – you know, the kind you see at airports and pharmacies – in our cart. Whenever we’re open, there will be a cart full of them for fifty cents each outside our front door. You can’t go wrong with a price like this. Mysteries! Westerns! Romances! Horror! Take a look and take ’em home.

Yes, we have Gift Certificates!

arrgiftcertDo you know someone who loves to read, but likes to save money (i.e., wants a big bundle of books for each buck)?

We’ll bet you do. Do you know a teacher or parent who would love to bring a big pile of inexpensive, gently used books into their classroom, or into their children’s rooms?

If so, stop by Recycled Reads and get them a great, inexpensive gift – a Recycled Reads Gift Certificate! You can purchase them in denominations from $5 to $50, and show them, if they don’t know already, what a great deal we offer here at the store. For more info, call us at 512-323-5123.

Altered Books – the sequel – on April 25

arraltbOur altered books program on March 21 was a big hit, and everyone who participated appears to have had a great time. So we’re hosting another altered books program at Recycled Reads – this one on Saturday, April 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. You’ll have a chance to take one of our used books, slice it, dice it, color it, and yes, alter it however you like.

Noa Baron and Celia Holm, members of the Austin Public Library staff, will once again guide you through the process of transforming an old book into a work of art. And it’s free.

We’ll have the raw materials here, so just bring yourself, along with a desire to make something new. Sign up at the store, or send us a comment with your e-mail address, if you’re interested in signing up (don’t worry; e-mail addresses won’t be posted). See you there!
