Celebrate Armed Forces Day at Recycled Reads on May 16
Armed Forces Day is coming up this Saturday May 16th. How would you like to make that an opportunity to do something special for our troops overseas? Well, with our help you can do just that!
Recycled Reads has teamed up with Operation Paperback to celebrate Armed Forces Day in a very special way. Operation Paperback collects gently used paperback books and sends them to American troops deployed overseas. Since 1999, they have shipped over 950,000 books to our armed forces around the globe.
Where does your part come in? Simple. Just come in to Recycled Reads and purchase one or more of our gently used paperback books, then drop your purchase into the Operation Paperback collection barrel as a donation.
Believe it or not, donating books is a great way to show your support for our brave service men and women. Many troops serve far from home and live in facilities that provide few comforts. At the end of the duty day, the opportunity to escape into a good book can be a welcome relief.
For more information about Armed Forces Day with Recycled Reads please call 512-323-5123 or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library.
Hope to see you all there!

The Recycled Reads bookstore seeks to advance City of Austin go green initiatives. Items Recycled Reads is unable to sell go to Books Beyond Borders, which through Project School House provides books and funding to third-world schools and libraries. Unusable items are sent via Books Beyond Borders to companies that will recycle them into building material. Recycled Reads gives books a second chance and is an active participant in the City’s Zero Waste Plan by ensuring obsolete materials are handled in an environmentally responsible way by keeping these materials out of landfills. Additionally, the Library contributes to a socially responsible cause by ensuring knowledge and learning is passed along to others in need.
