Recycled Reads: a True Community Space
We celebrated our three-year anniversary on Saturday. Along with our shelves upon shelves of amazing books; the bookstore is a great community space for puppet shows, craft demonstrations and art exhibits. Our new exhibit is courtesy of Imagine Art.
Recycled Reads to Celebrate Three Year Anniversary
On Saturday, Feb. 25, Recycled Reads will celebrate our third year anniversary as the Austin Public Library’s used bookstore. Since leather is the traditional gift for three years, we had a faux leather bookmark designed. This bookmark will appear in the February 23 Austin Chronicle. We encourage you to cut out the bookmark, or bring a photocopy or a copy on your cell phone, digital camera or other device to Recycled Reads to be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to the Recycled Reads bookstore. Anyone who purchases $15-$25 on Saturday, Feb. 25 will be entered into a drawing for a $15 gift certificate, and anyone spending over $25 will be entered in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate.
Our celebration includes a puppet show at 1:00 and music by singer/songwriter Joe Blanda at 2:00. Special displays and other surprises will make it a special day.
Literature, Legacy and History
In honor of Black History Month, Recycled Reads has several unique items in our collectibles case. These include a first edition facsimile of Native Son by Richard Wright; the 1951 poem, A Black Woman Speaks by Beulah Richardson; volume II of the Correspondences of W.E. B Dubois; a first edition of the Violet Crown award winning book From Slave to Statesman, the legacy of Joshua Houston, slave to Sam Houston.
